Battery Pack Consistency
First of all, let’s understand What causes the inconsistency of battery cells?
It mainly includes four points: the remaining capacity of the battery, internal resistance, and self-discharge current.Two aspects: one is the inconsistency caused by the battery production and processing, and the other is the inconsistency caused by the environment in which the battery is used.The reason for the inconsistency in production comes from the processing technology, materials and other factors; the inconsistency in the environment is due to the different position of each battery cell in the PACK, so the environment will also be different. For example, the temperature will be slightly different, and long-term accumulation will cause the inconsistency of the battery cells.
To sum up, the equalizer is used to eliminate the remaining capacity difference of the battery cells. Under ideal conditions, it always keeps the remaining capacity of each battery cell the same, so that all the cells reach the upper and lower voltage limits of charge and discharge simultaneously, thereby increasing the available capacity of the battery pack.
It can be seen that the equalizer is an important tool to ensure high battery capacity.There are two solutions to achieve the balancing function, active balancing and passive balancing.Passive equalization uses a resistor to discharge, while active equalization allows charge to flow between cells.
